Downtown Beautification Project

Hanging Baskets in Bridgeton's Downtown

Made possible through the generosity of The Cumberland County Improvement Authority

Our thanks go to The Cumberland County Improvement Authority for their support in making this project possible!

The Bridgeton Renaissance League and Bridgeton Main Street Association were the proud recipients of a grant awarded by Cumberland County Improvement Authority in support of our downtown beautification project.  The grant funded in its entirety the acquisition of wrought iron hanging baskets along with the all of the plants and planting mediums which are now hanging throughout our downtown.  This project is unique in that it utilized primarily recycled materials and water conservation technologies imported from Sweden resulting in a 75% reduction in water usage for the maintenance of the plant life.

Routinely, hanging baskets are found throughout the world as an element in many civic beautification projects, however most often the baskets are disposable and are discarded at the end of their season.  High demands on water consumption by the plants often require a dedicated source of manpower which can be both costly and wasteful of our water resources.

Because of the wisdom found within CCIA's grantmaking process, The Bridgeton Renaissance League invested in its awareness and education on the value of using recycled materials and water conservation practices in every phase of this project.  The wrought iron hanging baskets are made from recycled metals and are a sustainable element in our downtown which will be filled each and every year to follow with beautiful flowers and foliage.

Bridgeton Renaissance League volunteer hard at work preparing the hanging basket soon to grace our City's downtown.

Our thanks go to The Cumberland County Improvement Authority!

For education on the value of using recycled materials.

For encouraging us to use environmentally responsible water conservation practices.

For supporting socially minded projects that fuel community involvement!

For making it possible for us to add beauty to our downtown

 business district!

Future Projects

The Bridgeton Renaissance League has a deep commitment to fulfill many goals for beautification throughout Bridgeton.. As a community based non profit organization, our ability to effect change and to enhance our environment is far easier than for a City government who must, by virtue of their very existence, focus on the day to day matters of running a city.

We look forward to the opportunity of building upon our beautification efforts to include hanging baskets along Bridgeton's riverfront as well as the addition of various ground level planters throughout the downtown.

The Bridgeton Renaissance League's focus is city wide.  This opens up many possibilities for beautification and enhancement to our neighborhoods throughout the city.  Whatever the size and scale, beautification projects add to our quality of life and make a statement about how we view and value our community.  The Bridgeton Renaissance League believes in, and is committed to, a renaissance in our city and there is no doubt that continued beautification projects will enhance our environment and have a positive impact on our community in ways that perhaps may even elude measurement.

An aspirational project for the League is the development of a downtown Victorian park.  Anchoring our downtown in a visually picturesque way will serve to soften the landscape and enhance the beauty of the downtown.  By beautifying our downtown landscape in such a grand way, it is our expectation that there will be an increased interest by business which will assist our city in meeting its economic development goals.

There have been considerable studies conducted on the correlation between a clean, beautiful environment and a reduction in litter and crime.  Beauty in any form is transformational.
